60th Anniversary Ceremony

In 2026, the Martin Buber Institute for Jewish Studies at the University of Cologne will celebrate its 60th anniversary. We took this anniversary as an opportunity to honor the history and development of the institute and, at the same time, to look ahead to future prospects for Jewish Studies in research and teaching.

The event included welcoming remarks from the university and the faculty, as well as a presentation on the history of the institute. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Michael Brenner (American University and LMU Munich) under the title:
“I Without Her Instead of I and Thou: Paula Buber, Edith Rosenzweig, and the Forgotten Women in the Jewish Cultural History of the Weimar Republic.”
